Glen Campbell Guitar Page
Sorry to take so long updating this page but
2002 was a heck of a year for me and my family, I'm looking forward
to 2003. In addition to looking at some of Glen's music over the next
few months we're going to take a close up look at some of the Ovation
guitars played by Glen himself through the years.
I want to look at one of my favorite Webb songs, "Wichita Lineman".
I've had several requests to look at these changes. These are the changes
I currently play when performing live with Glen on tour so they may
differ from the version you've learned. One strange thing about this
song is the fact that the verses are 17 measures long as opposed to
a more typical 16 or 24, one of many reasons why Jim Webb's music stands
out from the crowd. The changes I never tire of, even after having played
the song several thousand times. You may notice especially bars 5 and
6 are different from many charts. I play the BbMaj7 at the 6th fret,
then descend with the Am7 (5th fret) and Gm7 (3rd fret) substituting
those chords for what is usually F and Bb/C. The bass guitar solo notation
follows the chord chart. Here is a printable
version of the chart. If you want to discuss the chart hop over
to the Musicians and
Music Discussions on the fan forum. I'm experimenting with different
ways to put chord charts on the site so let me know if you like or dislike
this format.
A few notes:
Chords are in black, lyrics are in blue
with musical instructions etc. in red.
Chords written with a slash (Gm/Bb), in the example would mean
a Gm chord with a Bb note in the bass.
Two chords in the same measure as the Dm and Am indicate
two beats of the measure are assigned to each chord.
This ||: indicates
a repeat sign, as the verse is repeated two times before the solo.

Here's the notation for the bass
guitar solo in measure 38. I've added the whole note D in measure
45 as it was omitted in the chart. The solo is played an octave lower
than written.
